Agency notice checklist
What to do in the first days after an IRS or state notice arrives: read the reply date, keep the notice, and send it to your payroll team.
What should I do when an IRS or state notice arrives?
Respond by the reply date printed on the notice, because penalties and interest keep growing while you wait. Send the notice to your StartEase payroll team at hi@starteaseai.com straight away.
These steps keep you inside the reply date. Print this page (Ctrl+P, or Cmd+P on a Mac) to keep it with the notice.
Today
- Read the notice and write down the reply dateEvery notice states the date by which you must respond. That date is the one that matters.
- Keep the original notice and the envelopeDo not throw anything away. Your payroll team may need the whole notice.
This week
- Send the notice to your payroll teamSend a PDF or a clear photo to hi@starteaseai.com, or use the WhatsApp icon next to the support number in the portal. Tell them the reply date.
- Let your payroll team compare it with your recordThey read the notice and compare it with the company's record in StartEase: rates, deposits and filings. They tell you what to send back.
Before the reply date
- Do not pay or reply until you know what the notice is aboutUnless the notice itself requires it by its date.
- Reply to the agency by the reply date and record what you sentKeep a copy of what you sent and when. See Notice for the articles on each common cause.
