What is a custom leave policy?

A custom leave policy is for any time off the other kinds do not cover, with your own name, for example a moving day or a wellness day.

Why companies offer it

What the law says, in short

Federal law does not require payment for time not worked. A custom policy cannot replace leave that a law requires, such as a state or city paid sick leave rule.

How to set up a custom policy in StartEase

  1. Open Time › Time off and scroll to Policies.
  2. Under Add a policy, choose Custom, then select Add policy.
  3. Fill in each block below. The example is a sample "Moving day" policy: your company chooses its own numbers.
  4. In Review and turn on, read the summary sentence and select Turn on this policy.
